Player Numbers (11v11 and 7v7)
Positions on the field have been numbered for a long time. It's an easier and shorter way to refer to a position than by a name.
We play 7v7, so we use the white numbered players and do not use the red numbered players. You'll add those as you get older. Just which number plays where on the field is something the coaches decide. A position has responsibilities. One of those responsibilities to to know when to play that position and when not to.
These numbers are about a players position and responsibilities. They are not about your jersey number.
We place players here because it gives us the a good chance to score and to keep the other team from scoring. Compare where the players are to the zones from the Principles.
Here are the names for the position numbers we use:
1. Goalkeeper.
4. Right Center Back.
5. Left Center Back.
7. Right Wing.
8. Center Midfielder.
9. Striker/Center Forward.
11. Left Wing.
