How To Play A Position: (8) Center Midfielder
Who you are:
You are the play maker. You are the one who says how fast the game moves (and we want it fast!). You're the one who sees in all directions. You're the one who can dribble past anyone because your skills are so good. You're the one who sees who can get the shot. You are the one who decides the play.
Where You Play:
You play in the middle part of the field, from just in front of the defenders ( 4 and 5) to the other goal. You play inside the wingers (7 and 11).
On Defense:
You press the ball when no one else is. You win the ball and get it to someone moving up the field. You drop back to in front of the defenders (4 and 5).
On Offense:
You are the link between the defenders (4 and 5) and wingers (7 and 11) sometimes. You are the link between the wingers (7 and 11) and the striker (9) sometimes. When you are moving up the field, you make sure your wingers (4 and 5) and striker (9) are in front of you while you move forward. When you don't have the ball, you support the ball, find space, or run through a gap. When you do, you look for who's open in front of you to pass to. If no one is, you may pass back. You make them mark you. You shoot when you can.
Remember:
You're in the middle, so look all around you, all the time. Take the shots you have, but also delay when you're outnumbered. Everyone is your friend, but the goalkeeper is only your friend if both center backs (4 and 5) are marked.
