How To Play A Position: (1) Goalkeeper
Who you are:
You're the one with a level head. You're the one with good hands (and feet!). You're the one who can wait for your play, then make it. You're the one who's looking at the whole field even when you don't have the ball. You have a short memory. If a goal gets scored against you, you just line up for the next play. You play by special rules.
Where You Play:
You play in the goal. You play in the penalty box. You play in the danger zone. But if you have to, you go where the ball is.
On Defense:
You are the last defense before the other team scores. When the other team gets past everyone and into the danger zone, it's your job to fix the problem by stopping the shot. Wherever the ball is, you stay between it and the center of the goal. You catch the ball and hold onto it when you can. When you can't you knock it wide.
On Offense:
You're often the first one who handles the ball. If the ball is in your hands, you run to the corner of the box and you roll it out wide to one of your center backs. If it's a goal kick, you kick it wide to one of your center backs. You decide whether left or right is going to be better for your team. You are the first attacker.
Remember:
You can use your hands any time the ball is inside the penalty box. The quicker you get the ball out wide to your center backs, the more likely your team is to score. You can run past everyone to the corner of the box to distribute the ball. Your friends are your center backs (4 and 5). The center midfielder (8) is your friend if the center backs are marked.
